Narrowly avoided being panhandled at sHell.
This guy said he needed $20 for a taxi home, and he'd give me this shiny watch he had (he said it was worth $160) to keep until he paid me back after he got off work tomorrow.
Funny, I thought, I think I'd be buying a POS watch for $20.
I asked him where his usual ride home fom work was (he said he was a painter). I wondered to myself why he was just getting off work at 11pm if he was a painter. Painters usually paint when it's light out.
He got flustered and said he knew the gas station attendant. Some kind of assurance that I wouldn't get ripped off.
I told him that I would be glad to give him the cash if I could hold on to the watch and his driver's license.
He said nevermind and that he wasn't going to "harass" me and I could go about my "business" inside sHell.
So I went inside and purchased coffee and a fruit drink with a $20 bill.
